Skylark Sat on a log in front of the roaring campfire. He looked across at his friend, Suoh, who was poking the fire with a stick. He had seen his friend in a different light ever since he learned of his lineage. He was disappointed in himself for thinking of Suoh differently, because he was sure that Suoh hadn't changed his perspective of Skylark after he learned that he was part dragon. The fact of the matter was simple, though, Suoh was Adversian. A race practically born and bred to hunt dragons. It did explain why Suoh won every game of hide and seek when they were kids, as all Adversians had a natural ability to sense dragons. Suoh had been unknowingly hunting him since they were ten. He continued to silently stare at Suoh poking th fire. Skylark almost had a minor breakdown when he found out what his mother really was, and he could only imagine what Suoh was thinking. Hopefully, he wasn't thinking of living up to his Adversian heritage. Almost as if had read his mind, Suoh looked up from the fire and said:
"I've been thinking about this whole 'dragon hunter' thing."
Skylark almost fell off his log with surprise. "O-oh really? What about it?"
"Well, my ancestors and your ancestors fought relentlessly for centuries..."
"Yeah?"
"Yet we are both alive, living proof that both sides failed."
"I guess so.." Skylark said, curious, yet suspicious as to where this conversation was going.
"It's like...So many people and dragons died and for what? nothing, right? The world isn't rid of either of us."
"I guess so." Skylark said. "What a waste...we could both have been trained by masters of our own races, instead of me taking flight lessons from birds." He forced a laugh.
"You're right..at least partially. It WOULD be a waste if NEITHER race achieved their goal...Sky, I know you're only HALF dragon...but since you can't HALF kill someone....You see where I'm going with this."
Suoh stood and drew his sword. He leveled the blade with Skylark's throat. Skylark was taken aback by this sudden change. He rolled backwards off his log bench and put his back to a tree. He fumbled with his sword and barely drew it before...
Suoh burst out with laughter. He sheathed his sword and sat back down.
"You really thought I would do that? Seriously man, this doesn't change anything. So what if my ancestors hunted yours. I didn't, my father didn't, his didn't. It's ancient history. What is important, is that we now have an ace in the hole for Zulu. If he can control magic so well because he is Adversian, the I must be able to as well....I just have to figure out how."
Skylark sat down and leaned his sword against the log. "Zulu is full Adversian, though, not just half. You may not be as good as him, or you may have more trouble learning."
"Yeah, but he doesn't have the sword skill that I do. I'll make up for my lack of magic with my deadly swordplay. My skills strike fear in the hearts of dragons!" Suoh laughed. "Just kidding, man" He reached over and slapped Skylark on the shoulder. Skylark chuckled and stared deeply into the fire...
